Kane Cali- Rippled Landscapes (Glass Art) at Christine X
Kane Calì (b.1983) is a Maltese artist/designer living in the UK who is currently artist in residence at the UCA in Farnham; his role is to offer one-on-one help with the use of new technologies (laser cutting, rapid prototyping) and with a range of 3D-related software to all 3DD and product design students. On concluding his residency, Kane will be following an MA at the Royal College of Art, London.
Unlike most designer/makers, Kane generates his ideas in virtual spaces, often modelling 3D objects on the computer and then realising them as tangible objects through the use of new technologies (CNC machining); this leads him to using more traditional methods of making in order to produce finished work. Using glass as a specialist medium gives him the ability to fully exploit the inherent intricate subtleties only achievable through digital processes. Diversification of ideas and themes helps him keep things fresh, engaging and most importantly, challenging.
Kane Cali - Rippled Landscapes opens at Christine X Gallery on December 9th 2011.
